The UN General Assembly (UNGA) approved the nomination of Achim Steiner as the Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) for a four-year term on 19 April 2017.
Mr. Steiner, who previously served at the UN Environment Programme and headed the UN office in Kenya, was selected to succeed Helen Clark, a former New Zealand prime minister, who has steered the UNDP since 2009, according to a letter by Guterres dated Tuesday (April 11, 2017).
Mr. Steiner has been serving as the member of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) since its Phase II, and assumed the position of Vice Chairperson in CCICED Phase V. UNDP has been working in partnership with CCICED since CCICED Phase I by providing financial and intellectual support.
