Sharing China’s Experience in Circular Economy with WEF

On the afternoon of January 17, Ms. Fang Li, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, and Assistant Secretary-General of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), was invited to participate in the high-level discussion on “Accelerating the Circular Economy” of World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2017 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

This Annual Meeting invites global leaders to re-examine the existing international system for global cooperation, reshape a new system that will accommodate a more complex and multi-polarized world, respond to the needs for inclusive development and seek constructive global solutions.

The high level discussion on “Accelerating the Circular Economy” provides a road map for carrying out regional cooperation on circular economy and establishing a platform for information sharing. Ms. Fang introduced China's efforts and progress in circular economy for the past decade, CCICED's contribution in this field and relevant experience of International Platform for Environmental Technology (3iPET). She also discussed with meeting participants the challenges facing circular economy in law and regulation and the role of new technologies in promoting circular economy.

The meeting was well attended by Mr. Erik Solheim, UN Environment Executive Director, Ms. Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility, Ms. Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Canada, and other representatives from governments, international organizations, research institutions and world-renowned enterprises.
