The inception meeting of the Task Force on "the Pathway towards a Low Carbon Economy in China" was held in Beijing on June 24-25. Professor Liu Shijin, Chinese Co-chair and Vice Chairman of Development Research Center of the State Council, International Co-chairs, Sir Gordon Conway, Chief Scientific Advisor of the Department for International Development of UK, and Mr. Björn Stigson, President of World Business Council for Sustainable Development chaired the meeting. CCICED Secretary General Zhu Guangyao addressed to the meeting. Mr. Arthur Hanson, International Chief Advisor of CCICED, Task Force members, experts and the representatives from the embassies of UK, Norway, Sweden and Canada attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed such topics as Task Force framework and main research components, exchanged the views and reached common understanding. The meeting decided that the Chinese experts will revise and improve the project proposal based on the discussions. This Task Force will submit a Background Paper at CCICED 2008 AGM this year and finish the final report at CCICED 2009 AGM.
