A Scoping Meeting on Sustainable Use of Coal and Pollution Control Policy was held in Beijing on June 26. Professor Pu Hongjiu, the Vice President of China National Coal Association, CCICED Chief Advisor Shen Guofang and Arthur Hanson attended the meeting.

The meeting aimed at providing foundation and direction for the proposed CCICED Task Force. Invited experts made presentations on the prospect on coal use in China and challenges of the development of coal use technologies in China. The participants exchanged their views on relevant issues and national policy needs in relation to environmental sounds sustainable use of coal and pollution control policy improvement. Officials and experts of such Chinese departments and organizations as NDRC, MEP, China National Coal Association, Universities of Tsinghua, Mine and Technology, Zhejiang, and China Academy for Environmental Planning and Shenhua Corporation as well as representatives of embassies and enterprises such as Denmark, Sweden, Britain, Canada and Germany, Shell China Limited, Dow Chemical Company, SINO-US Energy Foundation attended the meeting.
