The third meeting of CCICED Task Force on Strategy and Policies for Environment and Development of Western China was held in Beijing during December 5-9, 2011. More than 40 people including Mr. Liu Jiyuan, Chinese Co-Chair of the Task Force and Ms. Robyn Kruk, International Co-Chair and former Vice Director of the Prmie Minister’s Office of Australia jointly chaired the meeting. Ms. Fang Li, Assistant Secretary General of CCICED and Vice DG of MEP Office of Foreign Economic Cooperation and more than 40 people from CCICED Secretariat and task forces attended the meeting. The meeting especially invited relevant Chinese experts from State Council Development Research Center and Agricultural Policy Research Center of Chinese Academy of Agriculture to attend the meeting.
Centering on six topics such as management and rehabilitation of fragile ecosystems in West China; management of energy and mineral resources; investment of human resources; development of urbanization; transformational development of industry as well as institutional arrangements and environmental policy for West China, the meeting had in-depth discussions. In view of the overlapping components of each topic and the contradictions, the meeting gave suggestions on the improvement, it further identifies the activities of the next stage and makes detail in topic studies.
According to work plan, this Task Force will hold the fourth meeting when it carries out overseas investigations in early February, 2012 in Australia.
