CCICED Task Force on Sustainable Use of Coal and Pollution Control Policy in China held the last working meeting in Beijing during September 7-8, 2009. Mr. Pu Hongjiu, The First Vice President of China Coal Industry Association and Chinese Co-Chair of the Task Force, Mr. Knud Pedersen, Vice President of DONG Energy Company, Denmark and International Co-Chair of the Task Force, Professor Mark Jaccard of Simon Fraser University, Canada co-chaired the meeting. The Chinese and international members of the Task Force, Dr. Hanson, the International Chief Advisor of CCICED, Mr. Guo Jing, Assistant Secretary General of CCICED as well as experts from National Energy Administration, WRI and International Energy Agency attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed and discussed the policy recommendations of the Task Force on such areas as strengthening capacity building of energy and environmental institutions, improving legislation and promoting scientific innovation. The Task Force will revise the policy recommendations and research report based on the common understanding of the meeting and the comments put forward. Final report will be submitted to CCICED 2009 AGM.
Chinese and international experts of the Task Force visited such sites as Huaneng Power Plant in Gaobeidian, Beijing, and Kailuan Coal Mine in Tangshan, Hebei Province before the meeting to find out the real situation in power plant and coal mining in China.
Established in November, 2007 upon the approval of CCICED Bureau, the Task Force focuses its study on the strategy of sustainable use of coal (the basic energy source in China) to assure the security of long-term coal supply and provision of reliable energy sources for economic growth. Meanwhile, it studies ecological environmental issues during the mining, transportation and consumption processes of coal to put forward corresponding control policy and strategy based on successful practice and experience in the world.
